Costa Rica vs Haiti, it will be without Melchie Dumornay

For the crucial match against the Costa Rican women’s national team, scheduled for Thursday, November 30 at 8 a.m. (Port-au-Prince time) in Alajuela as part of the penultimate day of the 2024 Gold Cup qualifiers, Haiti will have to compose its team without the presence of Melchie Daëlle Dumornay. The latter, who had won the trophy for “best player of the match” against Dijon FCO (4-1) last weekend, has contracted an injury according to the Olympique Lyonnais coach.

Melchie Dumornay

This is very bad news for the Haitian women’s football team. Melchie Dumornay, who missed Wednesday’s Champions League match against the Fenottes, who won 2-0 against Austria’s St. Pölten, will have to be out for several weeks due to an ankle injury.

“Following the tackle she received against Montpellier (5-0), she will certainly be unavailable for several weeks,” said Sonia Bompastor on Tuesday, on the eve of the visit of Austria’s St. Pölten in the Champions League. Melchie Dumornay was able to play against Dijon (4-1, last Friday) but unfortunately, she has an ankle that is suffering, we will have to rest her for a few weeks, added Bompastor before specifying that the former Reims player would undergo more in-depth examinations. At the moment we don’t have a duration, we’ll know by the end of the week,” added the Lyon coach.

In this little game, it will be for the second time that Melchie Dumornay, since she joined the seven-time D1 champion team Arkema, will miss an important appointment with the Haitian national team since she was absent during the first leg played in the Dominican Republic and won (1-0) by Haiti thanks to a goal from Nérilia Mondésir.

Melchie Dumornay’s injury is already causing controversy in the Haitian camp. In fact, many observers who closely follow the news of the Fenottes believe that it is on purpose that Sonia Bompastor, the coach of Olympique Lyonnais, has taken the decision not to release the Haitian nugget who has not made any announcement so far.

Before the kick-off of the Costa Rica-Haiti match which will be played on Thursday, November 30 from 8 a.m. at the Alejandro Morera Soto Stadium, the Grenadières, with 9 points and 25 goals scored, took the lead ahead of the Ticas who have only three points. In the event of a win or a draw, the Haitian women’s football team will qualify for the first edition of the Gold Cup 2024 to be held in the USA.
